How a Bitcoin mixer works

Every service on this list follows the same three steps. What differs is how big the pool is and how much control you get over each step.

  1. Step 1

    Send to a deposit address

You enter one or more payout addresses you control and get a one-time deposit address. Save the letter of guarantee if the mixer offers one.

  2. Step 2

    Coins are mixed

Your deposit joins a pool or a CoinJoin transaction with coins from other users. Random delays and split amounts make timing and value matching harder.

  3. Step 3

    Receive at new addresses

The mixer pays out different coins, minus its fee, to your payout addresses. On-chain, there is no direct link back to your deposit.

How to choose a Bitcoin tumbler

A short checklist we use when ranking services. Run through it before you pick one.

Fees and minimums

Look at the full price: the percentage fee plus the network fee for every payout address. A low headline fee can end up expensive on small amounts.

Delay control

The longer and more random the delay, the harder it is to match deposits and payouts by time. Good mixers let you set a delay per address.

Several payout addresses

Splitting the payout across addresses, in uneven shares, stops the output from looking like one round amount that mirrors your deposit.

Letter of guarantee

A signed letter proves which deposit address the service gave you and on what terms. Without it, you have nothing to show if an order goes wrong.

Log policy

Check how long the service keeps order data and whether it deletes it automatically. Shorter is better.

Check the address

Fake mixer sites copy real ones and keep the deposit. Compare the domain with several independent sources before you send coins.

Bitcoin mixer FAQ

What is a Bitcoin mixer?

A Bitcoin mixer is a service that pools coins from many users and pays out different coins to new addresses, so the link between the deposit and the payout is hard to trace on the blockchain.

Is using a crypto mixer legal?

It depends on where you live. Some countries treat mixers as ordinary privacy tools, others restrict or sanction them. Check the rules in your jurisdiction before using one.

How much does a Bitcoin mixer charge?

Most services charge a percentage fee, usually somewhere between 0.5% and 5%, plus a fixed network fee per output address. Longer delays and extra outputs can change the price.

How long does mixing take?

From a few minutes to several days. Most mixers let you set a delay; a longer, randomised delay makes timing analysis harder.

What is a letter of guarantee?

A message signed with the mixer's Bitcoin address that confirms your deposit address and terms. Save it: it is your proof if something goes wrong with the order.

Can I mix coins other than Bitcoin?

Some services also accept Ethereum, Litecoin, USDT or other assets. Multi-coin support is marked in the comparison table above.
